Matthew 1:23 – “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year”
Sun. Dec. 23rd 2018 – Pastor Stephan
Sermon Outline
I. Dealing with Negative Emotions during the Christmas Season is the Painful Reality for Many.
II. The Invitation to Christians is to Quieten Ourselves and Reflect upon Jesus Christ (Luke 10:41-42).
III. Rejoice and be Revived by the God who is with Us, Abiding in Us, and is for Us (Matt. 1:23).
Questions for Study and Reflection
1. What are your fondest recollections of Christmastime? What are the greatest challenges for you personally at Christmas? Why is it perhaps a difficult time for many during this season?
2. What changes need to take place in our lives so that we can do as point II above suggests? How did Mary do it (Luke 10:41-42)? What was the choice and sacrifice she had to make?
3. Read Matt. 1:18-25. Reflect upon the name pronounced by the angel. Reflect upon the other names given by the prophet in Isa. 9:6. Based upon Heb. 4:15 and other passages, how does Jesus help us in our difficult times? How does reflecting upon who He is and what He has done help you personally?
4. Who do you know who needs to hear the message of Jesus and what He offers to humankind? How can you personally walk alongside them this Christmas to help them dealing with some of the difficulties in their life? Why not take the time over Christmas for an intentional visit with them?
