John 15:12-13 - “Infinite Love in Christ”

I. The Love God has for Jesus’ Disciples is Beyond our Comprehension (John 15:9,13).
A. Christmas celebrates God’s love toward humanity which came in His Son (vs. 9).
B. The incredible inheritance given to believers is that of friendship/sonship (vs. 13).
II. Keeping Christ’s Commandments is the Outward Proof of our Fellowship with God (John 15:10,14).
A. Obedience in loving God and one another strengthens our relationship with God (vs. 14).
B. Fleeing sin and pursuing righteousness together strengthens our relationship with God (vs. 10).
III. “The Son of God became a man to enable men to become sons of God.” C.S. Lewis
Questions for Study and Reflection
1. Reflect on the most loving experience you have ever known. What was it? How long did it last?
2. Read John 15:9-17. Describe in what ways the Father love the Son (vs. 9)? To what extent does He love the Son? To what extent does the Son love His disciples? To what extent? What is the relationship bow between the Son and His disciples (see vs. 13)? Describe this in your own words.
3. What is the importance of obedience to the commands of Christ (vss. 10, 14)? What exactly are those commands? Why are they important for us individually and are a body of “branches”?
4. Take time to reflect upon how you have experienced God’s love in your life up to this point. What do you think about point III? Who do you know that needs to know this love? Tell them this week!
