I. The Downward Spiral toward Progressive Ungodliness begins with Little Steps (Psa. 1:1).
A. Walking in the counsel of the wicked means adopting ungodly principles (vs. 1a).
B. Persisting in that walk results in accepting those wrong ways (vs. 1b).
C. Sitting with mockers means complete agreement with them (vs. 1c).
II. The Blessed Person Pursues God’s Word as the Path to Righteousness (Psa. 1:2).
A. Habitually walk by taking time to read God’s Word and experience His Presence.
B. Stand still to draw near to God with the eyes and ears of your heart.
C. Sit and ponder the God-moments and discover God’s Presence in your life.
III. The Blessed Person Attains Stability and Fruitfulness in God’s Presence (Psa. 1:3).
Questions for Study and Reflection
1. Recall a time when you wanted to draw close to a relative, friend or acquaintance. How did you attempt to achieve this? What happened?
2. Read Psalm 1. Do you agree with Ia, b and c above? Why or why not?
3. Have you ever attempted to take time at the beginning of each day and then throughout your day to do what point II above suggests? How did it turn out? Is this part of your daily routine? If not, how could you begin to make it such?
4. This week, take time to reflect prayerfully on a favorite passage of Scripture. Write down your thoughts and reflections. Share these thoughts and reflections with someone who needs to hear about Jesus. Pray for them before speaking with them.
