Questions for Study and Reflection
1. Recall a time when you were young when a close relative sat you down in an attempt to explain a very important matter. What was it? How did you receive it? What difference has it made in your life?
2. Read Prov. 1:1-7. What is the writer’s purpose in presenting the words in this book? What are some of the words that stand out to you in vss. 1-6?
3. Reread Prov. 1:7. Explain the first half of this proverb in your own words, by first defining the words “fear,” “LORD,” and “beginning.” Do you believe this is true? Why or why not? Can you give an example of the character traits of a person or two like this you know?
4. Explain the second half of this proverb in your own words, by first defining the words “fools” and “despise.” Do you believe this is true? Why or why not? What typically characterizes the lives of people like this you know?
5. Reflect on point IC above. Is this the cry of your own heart? Pray this week that the Lord would birth in yourself a desire to make this proverb a greater reality in your heart and in your day-to-day living.
